Hosted asset management solution voted Best Internet Business Service   BUFFALO GROVE, IL — ASAP eSMART, an Internet-based IT asset management solution from ASAP Software, has been named the Best Internet Business Service in the Software and Information Industry Association (SIIA) 17th Annual Codie Awards.
Winners of the coveted software industry award were announced at a black-tie gala during the SIIA's Annual Conference in San Diego on April 15. This year, 325 companies submitted 700 products for consideration. Codie Awards were given in five major categories -– Industry-Wide, Content, eBusiness, Education, and Corporate. ASAP eSMART won under the eBusiness category.

Panels of independent judges consisting of industry experts, consultants and trade press editors selected a relative handful as finalists. SIIA members then voted on the winners through a mail-in ballot process that was audited by KPMG.

The term "Codie" actually stems from coding, as in software coding. Started long before the industry became mainstream, this year's Codie Awards carry forward the same vision as the program did in 1986 of providing the only peer recognition program in the software and information industry, a unique venue where companies compete for the praise of their competitors.

ASAP Software, a global software licensing services provider, several years ago recognized an urgent need for a better means of tracking software inventory and monitoring license compliance. Many of the asset management services and products at the time offered competent hardware inventory tools, and some allowed users to also take inventory of installed software. However, none of them offered a means by which an organization could acquire accurate, up to date software license compliance status on demand. The only logical way to do this was to offer an Internet-based tool that would take an inventory of what software was installed across a customer's enterprise, reconcile it with a database that tracked licenses purchased and display a report showing the variance.

The ASAP development team programmed a data collection agent that links a customer's enterprise and ASAP's proprietary TRACKER™ licensing management database. The small agent that resides on the customer's systems collects detailed software and hardware inventory data. It then reconciles the installed software applications with licenses purchased to create what's called the Gap Analysis. This is an on-screen report, delivered on demand via the Internet, that displays an instant view of applications that are either over- or under-licensed. The customer knows instantly what they need to purchase in order to maintain compliance. The SIIA has certified TRACKER's data as valid proof of license for audit purposes.
